District achievements at-a-glance

The Fort Mill School District was named to the 8th annual AP District Honor Roll in 2017. The AP District Honor Roll honors districts that increase AP course offerings while also maintaining or improving student performance on AP exams.

The 2018 senior classes of Fort Mill and Nation Ford high schools earned a total of $31 million in scholarships. 

The Fort Mill School District Class of 2018 exceeded the state and national averages on ACT exams administered in the spring of 2018. This is the fifth consecutive year Fort Mill School District seniors have posted a higher average composite ACT score than all K-12 school districts in the state.

Fort Mill High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2018. 

In 2018, 
Nation Ford High School was one of 15 groups in the nation to receive a $10,000 grant from Lemelson-MIT. 

The Finance Department of the District has received awards from both the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) and the Governmental Finance Officer’s Association’s (GFOA) for excellence in financial reporting for nine consecutive years. 

Gail Vawter of Springfield Middle School received the national Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Training sponsored by the South Carolina State Board of Education.

Fort Mill students scored higher than the national average on both the SAT and the ACT.

Eighty-five percent of AP students completed exams with a score of 3,4, or 5. 

In 2017, the Nation Ford High School Marching Band won the AAAA State Marching Band Championship.

Fort Mill Middle School's Mock Trial Team won the State Championship in 2017.

Fort Mill High School's Buzz TV have won two National Emmys from National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, including one for Best Broadcast .

Fort Mill High School principal Dee Christopher was named 2016 South Carolina High School Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.

Nation Ford High School Band Director Martin Dickey was inducted into the South Carolina Band Directors Hall of Fame on March 15, 2015 at Furman University.

Dr. Chuck Epps was named 2014 Superintendent of the Year by the Career and Technology Education Administrators’ Division of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA).

Charlotte metro area named among the 10 Best Places for Families to Live, citing the Fort Mill School District as the “Standout School District” in the Charlotte metro area.

Fort Mill is named the Best Place to Raise Kids in South Carolina, Bloomberg Businessweek. “Its students, the beneficiaries of an excellent school system, are also surrounded by natural beauty…” 

Included among Newsweek’s 2013 America’s Best High Schools.
